Als kind ben je bezig met het laten ontwaken en vormen van je instinctieve basis – de basis waarop je ratio zich zal ontwikkelen. De volwassenen die choreograaf Guilherme Miotto van Corpo Máquina Society voor zijn project It takes a child to raise a village / Football Meets Dance bij elkaar brengt, geeft hij als opdracht om de kinderen in het middelpunt te plaatsen en een omgeving te creëren waarin ieder zich veilig voelt en er naar hartenlust bewogen en gespeeld kan worden. Het zijn de kinderen die ons de weg wijzen. Zij brengen de nieuwsgierigheid en levenslust aan het licht die onder de volwassen denkwereld verborgen zijn geraakt. Voor de volwassenen zijn de kinderen de reden om samen te werken en in hun hart, lichaam en ziel te zoeken naar gemeenschapszin. Een hartveroverend samen komen waarin de connectie tussen voetbal, theater en het leven steeds voelbaarder wordt
“Kunst is iets bijzonders in ieder mensen leven, niet alleen iets voor bijzondere mensen”, zegt Miotto. Om zijn statement kracht bij te zetten, zoekt hij voortdurend naar potentiële en onvermoede ingangen voor kunstbeleving en onderzoekt hij alternatieve, uitnodigende creatie- en presentatie-vormen. Zo begon hij met het bouwen van een brug tussen voetbal en dans en ontwikkelde hij een manier van werken waarin creëren en repeteren één op één samenvallen met deelname van wijkbewoners. In It takes a child to raise a village / Football Meets Dance komen beide invalshoeken samen.

As a child, you’re busy with the awakening and shaping of your instinctive base – a base on which your ratio will develop. The adults gathered for the project It takes a child to raise a village / Football Meets Dance, by choreographer Guilherme Miotto of Corpo Máquina Society, are instructed to make the children the center. They’re to create an environment in which everyone feels safe and can plays and move to their heart’s desire. It’s the children that lead the way. They bring the curiosity and hunger for life to the light, which have been hidden beneath the adult reality of life. For the adults, these children are the reason to work together and search for community within their heart, body and soul. A heartwarming gathering, during which the connection between football, theater and life becomes more and more palpable.
“Art is something special in every person’s life, not just for special people”, says Miotto. To give the statement more ground, he’s in a constant search for potential and unsuspecting ways into the experience of art, and he researches alternative, compelling ways of creation and presentation. On these grounds, he began to bridge the gap between football and dance, and he developed a method in which creation and rehearsal come together as one, with the participation of local residents. These two come together in It takes a child to raise a village / Football Meets Dance.
